Case Study

From a Track’Air OEM computer to a flying system in 24 hours

Surveying and Mapping, LLC (SAM)

SAM was heading into production with a Riegl VQ-1560 II on a GSM 4000. The rugged book that ran that stack was part of the original OEM package — Track’Air-era equipment. When that computer died, the sensors were still in the aircraft. The aircraft was not a complete system until the FMS computer was back.

What was at risk

Without that box, the FMS software could not run the mission. Imagery and lidar were installed. The flight window was not. SAM needed the stack ready for production, not a quote for a new sensor.

What we did

TrackThat configured a replacement computer, integrated it with the sensors already in the aircraft, and had the system ready to fly and capture data within 24 hours. The new machine is a step up from the OEM rugged book. It sits on a full year of dedicated support so SAM is not waiting on a closed vendor when the next box fails.

Why it matters

The sensors did not change. The mount did not change. The operator already knew the workflow. What changed was the computer and who answers when that computer dies. That is the difference between an OEM package that is out of support and a flying system with current FMS software, a current license, and a live engineer.

SAM runs several of these systems. The point of the swap was confidence going into the season — the same FMS, current hardware, support that shows up in a day.

In their words

“It is great to be working with the Track That team again. Matt and Rene’s extensive knowledge of aerial survey planning and flight management systems, outstanding support, and commitment to our success continue to make TrackThat the right partner for our acquisition work.”
